I have dropped my bike a few times during my last trip. Wasn't really sure why. I would stall it unexpectedly, then ...... oops, it would slowly fall over.
When I started this part of the trip, the bike seemed to skip a beat once in a while. Sometimes on throttle roll on, sometimes when starting off. I noticed I was stalling the bike more often, and it seemed to sometimes have trouble on very slow speeds on steep hills.
Then my triple became a twin, with only two of the three cylinders running. I continued for the rest of the day, but it never got better. It didn't get worse, so that was a plus. I could not find a cause right away, but I had half the power and twice the fuel consumption.
Remove lots of plastic.

Lift Tank. That block of wood is a special tool. I use it to support the tank, to put under the sidestand in weird parking locations, to prop up the other side of the bike in other weird parking situations, to roll the front wheel onto to allow putting the bike on the center stand even if fully loaded. Makes a pretty good wood mallet too. The holes were there to make it easier to strap to the bike, but it ends up staying in the tank bag.

So... I started the bike cold, threw water on the exhaust pipes near the engine. One pipe stayed wet, the others dried quickly. Let the bike warm a bit, threw more water on the pipes, two sizzled, the other stayed wet. I then swapped the Ignition Coil of the dead cylinder to a different cylinder. Now THAT pipe would stay wet.
Problem diagnosed to Ignition Coil, now how to get the parts? A call out to ADV Rider, Ironbutt Association Ireland and others that I know came up with recommendations for Philip McCallen Truimph (etc) phillipmccallen.com
A call to them and I found them to be about the most helpful dealership I have ever had dealings with. They did not have the part and it was backordered for a month. They were able to find another dealership that could send them their stock in 2 days. Instead, they took a part off of a bike for me and I was able to get it the same day. Awesome. They were only a three and a half hour drive away, and they assured me the bike could handle being ridden on only one cylinder.
While there I also met a man who was very concerned that everything went well. He went over and above, as did his employees. I did not realize it until later that evening while doing research, but I think I met Philip McCallen, a famous motorcycle racer. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership.
In Good Company.

The offending part. Can you guess which one is bad?

This is what they look like after they go bad and start arching. These are the ignition coils, making the juice for the spark plug to spark.

One dirty engine. The dealer was surprised to see a bike with so many miles. They were especially surprised that it looked in such good condition. I guess not washing it has preserved it well. It took me longer to replace this than it should have, as I triple checked everything, going back and repeating a few of the steps to ensure they were done correctly.
